Temple Pier - 1972 8th August.
At 1.45am, an underwater camera deployed by "The Academy of Applied Science", under the leadership of Robert Rines, takes what became known as "the flipper photograph". In 1975, prompted by concerns for conservation, Rines and Sir Peter Scott named the monster "Nessiteras Rhombopteryx"; The Diamond Finned Wonder of Loch Ness.
